Srila Prabhupada

Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, was a spiritual luminary and the founder acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna movement. He played a pivotal role in spreading the teachings of Bhakti Yoga and the worship of Lord Krishna across the world. Srila Prabhupada’s life and contributions are a testament to his unwavering dedication to spiritual growth and the dissemination of ancient Vedic wisdom.

Srila Prabhupada (Abhay Charan De) was born in 1896 in Calcutta, India. He displayed an early interest in spirituality and later, under the guidance of his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, he dedicated his life to the service of Lord Krishna. In 1965, at the age of 69, Srila Prabhupada set out on a remarkable journey to the United States to fulfill his spiritual master’s vision of spreading the teachings of Lord Chaitanya (combined avatar of Radha and Krishna), throughout the world.

Upon arriving in the United States with very limited resources, Srila Prabhupada faced numerous challenges. However, his unwavering determination and profound devotion to Lord Krishna allowed him to persevere. He began teaching the ancient Vedic texts and the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra to a small group of followers in New York City. This marked the humble beginnings of ISKCON, a spiritual movement that would later flourish and spread across the globe.
